Speaking from my heart: Dear Father, I have trouble speaking from my heart because of fear. When I need to speak it, I want to speak it in love. Help me be willing. Your word says The one whose walk is blameless, who does what is righteous, who speaks the truth from their heart… will never be shaken. (Psalm 15:1-2) I don’t want to be shaken.
Cleaning out the clutter: Heavenly Father, my life is full of clutter… physical and mental. I try to control too much. Father take the things I can’t control out of my mind and fill me with your good thoughts. Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. (Psalm 51:10)
Finances: I have trouble managing money. Dishonest money dwindles away, but whoever gathers money little by little makes it grow. (Proverbs 13:11). I am willing to take the right steps to better manage my money. Give me wisdom to spend and save wisely… not for personal gain but for your purpose.
Loving others: I want to have genuine love for others. I want to know how to love others like Jesus does. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. (1 Corinthians 13:4-7) Father, soften my heart.
Anger management: I find myself reacting in abrupt rage sometimes. When I focus solely on my feelings I have outbursts that are unbecoming as your child. I want to show only love. I want to follow proverbs 15:1… A gentle answer deflects anger. I pray my gentle answers will deflect my anger as well as the anger of others.
Gossip: Dear Father, I Focus on the wrongs and faults of others. When I do, I tend to speak bad words about the other person as to make myself look better. Father I want to see into the heart of others rather than see the surface. I want to only expect perfection from you and not in others or in myself. I realize that when I speak things about another person I am only making myself hang on to the things I don’t like about them or myself and that takes my focus off of you. Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. (Ephesians 4:29)
Plans: I tend to make my own plans and expect you to bless them. Even when I am sure I am not doing anything wrong. Father, I want to be quiet and listen to you and hear your prompting before I do anything. He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” (Psalm 46:10) “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11)
Hardship: … And if it is something difficult for me I am willing to trust YOU and not my own strength. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. (Philippians 4:13)
Putting things off: Procrastination and avoidance are things I do on a regular basis. Although I may put things off with good intentions, I find myself not following through. Do not say to your neighbor, “Come back tomorrow and I’ll give it to you”— when you already have it with you. (Proverbs 3:28) Father, I want to be proactive and take care of things on time. I know that as soon as you prompt me it would be to my advantage to follow through as soon as possible.
My value and comfort: I seek value and comfort from other people. Father I believe you give me all the comfort I need and with that you value me as your child. Your love for me is never ending. You see me from the inside-out while others may value my appearance or what I can do for them. …The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart. (1 Samuel 16:7)
Focus: I am distracted by worldly things. This keeps me from doing your will or being an honest person. Father give me focus and diligence to honor you in all that I do. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. (Colossians 3:2)
