What makes us think we need to strive for perfection?  As if perfection is a place to get to… as if I have anything to do with how perfect I will ever be. This may sound crazy to some people, I guess, but when it comes to perfect, I somehow miss the mark.  I can’t quite hit it even as hard as I try, day after day.  Who told me that in order to make it in this life I must do everything right, I must look the part, and while I am at it, I must make sure the world sees me as perfect?

Let’s think about this for a minute…

Some of what Merriam-Webster uses to define perfect:
Being entirely without fault or defect; flawless; satisfying all requirements; an ideal standard; expert; proficient; pure; total; complete; sane.

Really?! And I think I am supposed to try to be that?!? No Way!  I fail miserably!

Now, let’s look at what the Bible says about me…

How interesting! I have been trying all along to be perfect… yet, God’s word says I already am!

My perfect-ness is ONLY because HE is perfect.  I am not perfect in and of myself… I don’t have to be! God invited me in to his presence, He invited this not-so-perfect, ever-striving, human being to be blameless and perfect because He adores me. Have you accepted His invitation?

Thank you Father, that I don’t have to be perfect in the world to prove my worth.  My faith in Christ and your love for me is all I need in this life.  You already call me perfect! In Jesus’ name.  Amen
